A Diesel Particulate Filter ( DPF ) is an exhaust aftertreatment device in diesel vehicles that captures and stores soot and particulate matter to reduce emissions.  It periodically regenerates by burning off the accumulated particulates to maintain efficiency and comply with environmental regulations.
