What are performance exhausts?

Performance exhausts are designed to make the exhaust less restrictive, allowing the exhaust gases to exit the vehicle more quickly and thus allowing the engine to put more power to the drive wheels. Performance exhausts will also increase the exhaust noise and possibly changing the tone of the exhaust as well.

What is the difference between a standard exhaust versus a performance exhaust?

A performance exhaust is designed to flow the exhaust gases at a higher rate. In order to achieve this most performance exhausts will have less restrictive mufflers and/or resonators, removing resonators ( delete), large tube diameter, and designed in a way to fit under the vehicle with the least amount of bends and less bend angles. The less the exhaust has to change direction, the more power can be made. Additionally, many performance exhausts are lighter, designed to reduce vehicle weight as well.

What tools do I need to install a performance exhaust?

You would require the same tools as installing a factory exhaust. Generally, performance exhausts are designed as converter-back systems, so the only connection you have to deal with is the connection at the converter outlet. Most of the time simple hand tools such as socket set, pliers, Sawzall/hacksaw are enough for installation. The limiting factor when installing a performance exhaust is having enough clearance to work under the vehicle.
